The AP via the Austin-American Statesman: Study: MTV Delivers a Diet of 'Sleaze'
His group favors requiring cable and satellite companies to offer "a la carte" programming, giving customers a chance to pick and choose which networks to buy. MTV is generally included in basic cable packages that most customers get whether they want it or not."The incessant sleaze on MTV presents the most compelling case yet for consumer cable choice," [Parents Television Council president Brent Bozell] said.
Two sides of the same coin, you prick.

Driz, why are you oppossed to this? I thought free market choice was what you were all about? A La Carte Cable allows people to pick and choose what they want for a reasonable price.
Posted by: somasoul on February 3, 2005 03:07 PMRe-read what I quoted. He wants to FORCE cable and satellite companies to provide the a la carte programming. No thank you. His argument (see http://www.parentstv.org/ptc/cable/documents/LBBCableChoiceStatement.pdf ) is that "It is unconscionable for the cable industry to force families to subsidize this kind of filth in order to access the wholesome, educational, and family-friendly programming available on a handful of basic cable channels."
Guess what? The cable companies aren't forcing anyone on anything. You still have to choice to get cable or not and it is up to you to decide which package of programming meets your needs and upholds your values. If that means the bulk of the material on TV is crap and you don't want to pay for it, then don't pay for it. If it means you discover later on that most of the stuff on TV is crap and you don't want to pay for it, then cancel your account and go on your merry way.
I would love to be offered individual stations and channels for a set price each. I'd most likely pick (among many more) the ABC/CBS/NBC/FOX affiliates, C-SPAN/C-SPAN2, Comedy Central, Sci-Fi, Cartoon Network, AMC, History, and Discovery. The shows I watch regularly are 99% of the time on those channels.
But since Mr. Bozell wants legislation forcing companies to provide something they don't, I oppose his plan. See what I'm getting at? I'll retract my statements if someone can demonstrate that he and his group do not want to use the power of the state to require broadcasters to offer individual channels.
At any rate, there is no question the man and his group wants the feds to censor the airwaves, something I do not look upon kindly: http://www.parentstv.org/PTC/publications/lbbcolumns/2005/0127.asp
