For the last several years, India and Pakistan have teetered on the very brink of nuclear holocaust. To the informed observer, it's clear that sooner or later, these bitter enemies are going to get in the ring again. (Remember, India and Pakistan have already fought three wars in the last sixty years.) Only this time, it's going to be one heck of a fireworks show. Their nukes are under the control of the military and can presumably be used at the discretion of one or more commander(s) in the field. Just one loopy officer who's willing to die for Allah, or Vishnu, or his own personal three-headed goat god, and BLAMO! It's on, Baby!Seems it's not a matter of "if." It's only a matter of "when." Which brings us to The Indo-Pakistani Deadpool.
"But," you ask, "what on earth is a deadpool?" It's really simple. It's a "pool" (like a sports pool) in which one bets on the exact instance of death. All you have to do is guess when the first Indian or Pakistani nuclear device will be detonated in anger to win fantastic prizes!

And what have those quarrels been mostly about? Kashmir...
Is there a UN resolution bout Kashmir? Yes...
What does it say? A referendum should be held in both parts to determine whether they want to belong to Pakistan or India or independent....
Has it been implemented? No ...
Why? India knows it would lose...
Did the US pressure em to hold the referendum? No...
Why? Cause there is no strategical nor economical 'Oil' value at stake...
Who said that? Bob Dole while he was leader of the republican fraction in congress 'or was it senate?'...
Wonder when Bush will realize how important this issue is ... well maybe he already has some genious masterplan... invade Pakistan and liberate the people XD I mean serious, afterall that would make it a lot easier to catch Bin Laden and his freaks. 'lol'
But yeah this conflict is stupid...I mean Indians and Pakistans are blood related o.O The only thing that divides em is religion.
So stupid ~~
India and Pakistan, just like Israel and the Palestinians, need to sort out their problems on their own. Since the things at stake are so important and so visceral, it will take large concessions from either side in order for the other to concede. But that won't happen as long as both sides refuse to compromise. So the only thing that'll break their stalemate is widespread bloodshed which strips away the pretense and demonstrates how stupid they are for butting heads over what should be an independent state free from interference from either side.
Posted by: Drizz on March 11, 2003 01:23 PMHey that just reminded me of our history.
Germany and France, the two arch enemies, not for decades but even for centuries 'heh'
But now after the biggest bloodshed in mankind's history, the Second World War, everything changed. Now we are close allies and friends. On the diplomatic level and even much more on the street level. I can tell that since I live here close to the border XD
I hope this is not really a prove that a large scale war is the only way to change the relationship between such countries o.O
I find it interesting that you people are speaking of this conflict as if you know something about it. The conflict itself is much too deep to address in mere paragraphs. BUt one this is for sure, none of you need to worry about this conflict......its not your problem.
Posted by: Gobind on January 26, 2005 05:28 PMGobind, I haven't studied the conflict and I don't intend to unless academic curiosity strikes me one day. What I do know is most disputes between countries are based on each side wanting to control the people and land in question. As such, I view most disputes (including the India-Pakistan problem) as the equivalent of school yard bullies throwing rocks at each other over who gets to steal the lunch money from a few kids.
Yeah, it isn't my problem now. But if they go nuclear and drag other nations into their fight through international alliances and defense pacts, then it becomes more of a problem to people outside the two countries, wouldn't you say?
