I just recently had my car broken into this past weekend while we were in Tahoe. The piece of shit(s) broke my window, crawled in and stole my $450 Blaupunkt stereo...I am so fucking pissed. I am so sick of this, and you know it was probably some fucking crack addict on welfare...my taxes go to these worthless pieces of shit. If I got my car stereo stolen and I forgot to right down the serial number, is there any way to find the serial number through an invoice/order number, or something?

Bob, that's very unlikely. Serial numbers by their nature are hidden within the packaging so only the person who is supposed to know it can get to it. It they put the number on a receipt or invoice, it would compromise the security of the serial number system. I certainly wish there was a way to get ahold of it differently.

What I need to do is have a text file somewhere and type down all the serial numbers and their corresponding product numbers and the places I bought them; keep several copies of the file for better record keeping.

Dude, unless you've got video or photo surveillance on your vehicle, there isn't much of anything you can do. Dusting for fingerprints is usually a waste of time because how can you possibly say for sure which set of the dozens that would come up is responsible?

Write down and save the serial numbers on yor gear so when you report a theft. Sometimes the cops can put out a bulletin to the pawn shops. Just keep this in mind that this incident marked the second time I called the police on a stereo theft and the second time they did jack shit of followup work.

Going to the cops isn't a guarantee of anything.

I recently had my stereo stolen from my car, lazy me didn't take the faceplate off and they ripped it out of my dash. Anyway I got a call the other night (after I already bought a new one)from the police in wyoming. I live in St. louis, he said he had my radio and tracked it with the serial number I gave on the police report. The officer was pretty vague on how and when I will get it back. Will I ever see it again or has anyone else tried to get stolen stuff back from another state? I am clueless as to what to do. Help me!

i just had my deck, my amp, my 2 subs, and my collection of over 250 cds jacked 2 days ago. all the cops could tell me was that i should have moved into an apartment complex with a gate. i feal the same as all of you, if only i could have caught them doing it.

I live in an apartment complex with a security gate in Tempe/Phoenix, AZ. My car was stolen about six months ago back on February 27, 2004 and it was broken into last night July 17, 2004. The only thing they got this time was a Pioneer XM tuner out of my trunk, they didn't even touch the deck. I don't really think that the gates do much but raise your rent. I live in a crime free community, but from what I understand the only thing it's good for is letting the complex boot me out if I have the police called on me, and knowing they do a small background check prior to moving in. I don't feel comfortable living here anymore and I still have two months left on my lease I'm stuck with. Looks like I will be moving out and paying for a months rent when I won't even be living here.

i just got my cd player yanked out of my car by some fucking night creaping crack addict from my neighborhood. That was a christmas present this year, and we payed 100 dollars not even a month ago to get it installed into my new (used) car. I swear i could just cry thinking about it, my family is kinda strapped for cash and they did that as a huge favor for me. I wish i could hide behind some bush in my yard and rip their fuckin heads off with a 12 gauge. fucking bitches.

I just walked out to my car ten minutes ago to find my sony deck, 1600 watt amp, 12" kicker subs, kenwood tweaters, and poineer mids have been stolen. I can't belive that they took so much time to unmount everything the way that they did. I'm so fucking pissed it's insane. If I would have cought the fuckers they would be on life support for months. Two hours ago i was shoked when i saw my cars window broken and all my stuff stolen. I still think im in a nightmare, i spent so much money there, i wanna cry. I called the police but he told me there was nothing they could do, but the thief left a hand lamp inside my car which i gave to the officer, still he said they never do a deep investigation in these cases. Frefer, unless you live in a town where the cops can be trusted to be of some use, I wouldn't bother with them.

I'd immediately visit all the local pawn shops to look for your gear, but unless you want to hire a private investigator to do the police's job, I'd accept the loss and take what you know now into consideration for the future. Take pictures of your property; engraving your name or a hidden message somewhere would be useful for future identification at pawn shops. Learn the phone numbers and locations of all the pawn shops in a few miles of your home. Write down all equipment serial and product numbers. Keep receipts. Notify your insurance carrier(s) of upgrades to your car.

Never - EVER - install or leave something in your car that looks valuable. I'm never buying a car stereo without a removable faceplate; I'm never leaving it attached on when I park my car; and I almost always take it with me into buildings.

And arm yourself. If the asshole(s) who broke into my car had made enough noise to wake me up, I would have been able to chase them off with my handgun. Alas, they didn't and they did the whole thing less than 20 feet from my bedroom window. It's one of the reasons I moved from that apartment complex - security sucked.

This morning I awoke to find that both my car and my boyfriend's car had had their windows smashed in and both stereos stolen. I drive an old car, I am a college student, I am poor, and I don't have insurance coverage for vandalism because I can't afford it. My car happened to have a nice (but still old) Kenwood stereo in it that the original owner installed. The repairs on my windows cost me $235. Whoever stole my stereo tore up my console and broke some other things in my car. Fixing these things will be very expensive. My car is the only thing worth ANYTHING that I have to my name. I worked hard for that car, as many other victims of this trend have. The thieves will probably get a small amount of money for that stereo. Maybe $60. Waking up in the morning to find that your efforts in life have been exploited like that feels like rape. It causes me to want to give up on life. You might say I asked for it by even having a decent stereo and parking my car in my driveway in a neighborhood I knew wasn't to great in terms of crime, but that's like saying a girl deserves to be raped because she is a girl and she tries to go somewhere besides in her house. "You should have known better" is no excuse. The thief made the effort of costing me the money for all of the repairs I will have to do for a lousy $60 worth of stereo. They cost me over 4 hours of missed work for just today, something that cannot easily be afforded by someone like me. The enjoyment of owning a stereo is the least of my concerns. Yet I love music and sometimes it is the only thing that gives me a reason to live. What my ability to hear music meant to me is worth infinitely more than the money the thieves will make. The thieves have shown me how completely self-centered and uncompassionate they are. Yet, I am powerless to tell them this, even though they probably wouldn't care. They had to have known that I was struggling in life; otherwise I would have a newer car with better paint. People, poor or not, who would rob, legally or not, the meager assets of someone (and do so repeatedly) have a slap of karma coming their way amounting to the sum of the injury they have caused by robbing. Perhaps they don't realize that they are stripping others in a similar predicament in life of their ability to survive. If not, they need to find out. In fact, it does not even come down to an issue of taking from those who can afford it. It boils down to it being malicious to casually add expense to someone's checkbook. I am an student temporary in the USA - Arlington , Texas to be exact. Last weekend some American asshole broke into my car and stole my Kenwood stereo system while it was parked at my apartment complex. I own an old car and the only thing valuable was my stereo. Wasted 4 hours of my time - $110 to fix the window and I did buy a new stereo which NOW leaves the car even when I step out to go into the gas station. What is fucked up with this country is that m*fuckers like this get away - in my country you do get petty thieves but NO one breaks car windows to steal stereo systems. Liability insurance doesnt pay for this thing. This country needs a serious change of laws - police only take a f****** report over the phone and dont even care to check out what happened. What is worse is that this asshole probably is a jobless crack whore who gets his money from my taxes.

Gretchen, sounds like the cops in Puerto Rico are as useless at helping you out with crime as they are in Austin. Twice I've had a car broken into and a stereo stolen and twice I got squat in assistence from the police.

I know I've heard of removable chassis in-dash car stereo receivers. Try calling Crutchfield ( http://www.crutchfield.com ) and asking them. They have awesome customer service.

Fortunetly for me, I've never had anything stolen from inside my car, but I have had personal shit stolen on a grey hound bus in El Passo Texas. I feel ya'll's pain. I'm a 16 year old girl from Idaho working 25 hours a week. During the summer, working 40 hours a week, from 7 am to 3 pm Monday through Friday, I bought my pride and joy; a beautiful jvc deck mp3/cd player. It was $300. Today (a saturday), December 4th, my father notified me that my cd player had been stolen. I ran out to look, and indeed, my cd player had been ripped out of my car, wires hanging, bent rim. I could see the maliciousness and selfishness by even LOOKING at the way that it was torn out. I was so shocked, I ran inside and called the police. They didn't do anything. I called Best Buy where i bought it, and they couldn't do anything, even though I put insurance on it, it didnt "cover abuse or theft". What kind of bullcrap is that?! Why else would i really care to get insurance on it? ALl day, i kept hoping i was just having a nightmare and my pride and joy of my WHOLE car, (I have a honda civic 91) this made my car have personality! And those assholes took it. Not only that, but they took a cd case from me as well. They left my door open so the light stayed on and burned out. Now I, a poor 16 year old, have to replace that at MY EXPENSE. Those jerks. After denial all day that this had happened, I was crying later tonight because I just feel so hurt that I was victimized in this way. RAPED of my money and my investment that I EARNED and that they probably took for drugs or their own pleasure. I really feel violated. I'm not being a drama queen either, that is honestly how I feel. I agree on the need to extract retribution on the filth that feel like they are entitled to my shit cause I'm white in a majority black n'hood, have money, whatever. I am normally a very mellow guy, but I hate to take crap from little dirt bags that expect me to be automatically scared of them because they are Black, or act black- God knows the media sells the Black man as a BMF. havent you guys ever heard of a car alarm, before you put 1000 dollars worth of car audio in your car you need to put 200 dollars worth of car security into your car. a simple car alarm with shock sensor and hoood and trunk sensors and the most important feature (two way remote that notifies you) will spare you from having to pay for new windows and dashboards and replacing stripped parts.
when you install the alarm make sure you use two sirens, one should be hidden and fused. you should have hood pin switches because they usually open the hood and disconnect the battery. you can even get a radar detector trigger so if they come with in 2feet of your car it will chirp the siren .
i had some crack head break my window but my alarm went off and all he got was the removable face which i only paid 7 dollars for. another a hole tried to steal my corolla by peeling up my hood but the alarm went off, he ran away, another guy tried to steal my radio but the alarm went off. my alarm saved me many many times. you should be aware that crack heads like to break windows so make sure you get a shock sensor and if u want to prevent the window from being brokenin the first place use a 15 dollar radar sensor

hey guys, don't worry what goes around comes around, i had a cousin that used to steal peoples radios and break their car windows, he would laugh his ass off and drink to thier stupidity(of his victims) but then just a couple of weeks ago his fathers' truck got stripped to the fuckin bone,a mean the shell and chassis was what was left,hahaha hahahaha hahaha they desevred it. maybe it was payback cuz the full coverage insurance had just expired just two days before the incident. i was emailed by my cousin he was pissed, they had a a reagency conversion 2500 chevy truck that cost his dad some hardass workto pay it off(about $40k - $47k) and they had just finished paying for it, i can assure u that what i learned from my loser ass cousins is that they don't do anything productive with the money they get from the stolen property and it hurts them more at the end, they guys have seemed to learned thier lesson and have gotten jobs, cuz they have ran into the laws thru the fingerprints and they have been put on papers(probation) so they are forced to clean up thier act. i am simpathetic for all you that have been vicitmized.
in my hood everyone knows not to fuck with my shit or my moms or my brothers shit, cuz they know i hate fuckin thieves and i'll make sure they have a closed casket, we leave our shit unlocked and in the driveway, and it has been that way for years, only once have a shot at some punkass scoping my house and no one has ever fucked around with our property.
its ok to defend your shit even from your own family because my cousin used to breakin into his own families cars not in mine they know better.
its a select few that fuck it all up for the rest of the people.

My xplod head unit, iPod, and iPod interfase cable (over $700 worth of stuff) got jacked out of my car at schoo. My friends girlfriend had her alpine taken on the same day. The cop at our school came down and looked at my car and said:

COP: whats missing
ME: (describe all the stuff, including a speeging ticket that was sitting in the pocket under my stereo)
COP: *points to a small paint chip near my door lock* must have gotten in here"
ME: no I did that
COP: oh?...let me get you a crime report number

he got me some bullshit number that didnt do shit. My car insurance wont cover it eventhough I have vandelism protection due to the fact that my items werent "schedualed with the insurance company"

I've learned 2 things from all this...

1. COPS NEVER EVER HELP YOU EVER!!!!
cops have only fucked me over (i mentioned my speeding ticket, which was acctualy for running a stop sign.....it was a california stop at an intersection that didnt have a stop sign a year ago)....they didnt do shit about my stereo....and the same cop that wrote my report almost got me suspended from school a year before because i said the word "gun" eventhough it wasn't in a bad context.

2. ALWAYS TAKE THE MOTHERFUCKIN FACLEPLACE NO MATER HOW MUCH OF A PAIN IN THE ASS IT IS TO CARY ARROUND!!!!!!!!

im more pissed about the police than I am about the stereo....30-50 hours at a minimum wage job will replace that...Im more pissed about the fact that the cops dont do their job and dont even care that I work my ass off so I can have nice stuff, and I pay taxes so the cop can help me get my nice stuff back if it ever gets jacked, and he does jack shit when I acctualy need him....

some bitches jacked my pioneer car stereo and my cd wallet this morning they broke the side windown in the back to get in, but all they had to do was open the damn door, it was unloked. geeze. broken windows are such a hastle next time just use the damn door and i wont have to get broken glass stuck in my butt cheak!

Hey y'all. I had my car broken into in the middle of the day. I live on a pretty busy street with lot's of traffic and people. I'm just shocked that no one saw this happen. The punk bitch broke out my passenger side window and yanked out my alpine cd player. I had my car locked up and my alarm turned on. I was sitting in my apartment and heard the alarm go off. I immediately got up and ran out to my car, but by the time I got there, all I saw was my car with a pile of glass on the pavement. I don't know how someone could do this so quickly. They couldn't have had more than 30 seconds to do everything. I'm so pissed, I've never felt so much rage, its actually frightening to me how pissed I am.

Heh, man, I share the agony 'round here. I've had my car broken into 3 times in the last year.

Time #1: they wanted my stereo (broken old piece of crap thing) and smashed a window to get it.

Time #2: I don't know WHAT this idiot was after. I hadn't replaced the stereo at that point so there was nothing but a big gaping hole in the dash. He smashed my car's hatchback; that shit cost over $400 to replace. Maybe he thought I had a trunk system?

After that, I started leaving my driver-side door unlocked, with a Club on the steering wheel. I thought that'd at least save me having to replace windows all the time, right? Wrong-o....

Time #3 was 3 nights ago. I heard the car window shatter and went outside to investigate; I wound up face to face with the guy in the dark. I didn't expect to find anyone out there so I didn't go armed -- big mistake! What I wouldn't give to have had a nice can of pepper spray in my hand. He came at me, hands raised like he had a knife or something, and... gave me a shove. Then walked off to his getaway vehicle.

He got nothing, though. I never leave the faceplate in the car; he was turning the glove box inside out looking for it when I showed up. Yeah, wish I'd had my camera (to snap a nice shot of him crouched in the front seat), and that pepper spray.

It's frustrating, though. I left the door unlocked and I STILL wound up with a broken window. Apparently no amount of reckoning can adequately account for the infinite stupidity of the criminal mind.

Ya-theytook my stereo-it sucks-I am single female, poor and no A/C in car. It is an old 89 Mercury Marquis-my baby. All I had was music to get me through the traffic. Now silence. I think they live next door-bunch of low-life thug types-can't prove it-they just moved in. I am thinking of revenge but I would prolly get paid back in a big way and besides, what if it wasn't them.

About 2 years ago I had my Kenwood kvt-910, and 2, 7" monitors stolen. I had the stuff for awhile and I was planning on getting some new stuff. So I got an avic-n1. I never replaced the monitors. I found a 910 monitor, cause that's all I needed, on ebay. I threw that in my girlfriends car. Then the other day I walk out to my car and find my window broken out. They stole my avic. Also, my xtant x1001, but I've had that for like 4 years now. What gets me is, they never steal the hideaway units. At least I would have the satisfaction of knowing it worked, wherever it was. To wake up everyday and see half of my favorite multimedia player, pisses me off. So I finally sold it on ebay, for $300. At least someone will get use out of it. Now my girlfriend has my subs too. I plan on getting an N2, I just bought a microwave sensor for my car alarm too. Good Luck Kids

i had my pioneer dvd nav avic n1 stolen along with my jl 1000/1 amp and my custom box was fukin destroyed. a person cant even begin to describe the feeling it brings to see your car had got jacked and fuckin wires hangin everywhere i also had my $400 phone and my $400 portable game unit jacked as well as some nice sunglasses all of this totaling around $5500. 96 civics are easy to get in .. juz jimmy the door with a flat head and ur in. i wanna fukin kill whoever did it

Some ass tried to jack my deck and faceplate today.

My doors were locked, and I have no alarm.

My window was pushed down and the lever mechanism on it is broken now. My front driver's door was unlocked, my console was ripped wide open. My deck was pushed clear back, my faceplate was on the floor, and the case for the face plate was inexplicably on the roof of my car.

He left his hat, though. That's my trophy.

What's funny is last month, my roommate's faceplate got jacked. I think he was looking for a deck to go with it (they're both compatible Kenwoods).

Difference is: I lock my car doors and have no alarm,
He for god knows what reason leaves his doors unlocked with a loud alarm that did him zero good.

I heard his alarm go off -- bear in mind, his car was parked right next to his bedroom window with the windows open and I'm on the other side of the apartment! -- went outside, saw the guy sitting in his car, grabbing the plate. Nonchalantly got up, said "Still got it, bitch!" and ran off.

The cops, of course, were useless and wanted less of my description than I gave them. Some help!

This time, I'm just gonna tell em someone tried to break into my car and messed my window up, so I can get it replaced.

last nite all my shit was stolen i had blue lights and a kenwood Flip face it was old but it still was the shit!!! and i was planning to get a some subs and amp so i had all my wires ran well they thought i did and they broke my lock wit a crowbar breaking into my trunk got the lock to get then broke my window to get into the car!!! IM SO MAD. Yeah I guess that someone around here that does not like that i cant fiqure out who did it, Smashed the side window out of my car. They didn't break my window....and just got my system. My avic x1r was stolen a few nights ago. The car was parked within a gated residence in a supposedly secure underground garage within a locked car. They broke a window and ripped the stereo out of the dash. I'm an american living in France (have lived in Austin, BTW) and the police here are even worse about investigating these crimes than in the USA. Two nights later they entered my car again to steal the "hide away box" for the avic which they left the first time (I didn't know they had left it). The car was again parked in the "secure" garage but I had left it unlocked so they didn't break any windows this time (the previous window had already been repaired). The car is only a few months old so it sucked that they also dented the door and of course tore up many interior pieces while ripping out the stereo. I really need a GPS navigation system here in Europe but I'm buying one I can remove from the car. I feel the same way as many of you here. I thought about setting a trap for these assholes but, realistically, a stereo isn't worth being seriously injured or killed or spending time in a french prison for injuring or killing the thief (yeah, it's likely here). I know how you all feel. Last night my amp and speakers were stolen out of my jeep. I had all doors locked, except the hatchback. FUCK!! Well at least I still had serial numbers. Okay, to start off with, I have been a carthief in my time.

The reason I was lowered to this act was that a good friend of mine, clear on the other side of the country, had been raped in her apartment. Being a student at the time and having a bit of a deft hand within a night I had well over $1000. I never took anything too expensive from any one car or did any serious damage except that while picking a lock on one car I broke the lock.

So keep in mind that people don't just steal for drug money. That's no justification.

As to how to prevent getting your car broken into;
- Buy a little flashing LED from an electronics store for a few dollars. The light is common on alarms and anybody wanting to be subtle about it won't bother.
- Get tinting on your side windows. Completely clear is fine, it's just to stop windows from shattering so cleanly. With a pry bar and a little time a window can be cobwebbed with no more noise then a tiny pop.
- Park as close to your house or in a garage as you can. Again, just a little hint.
- Stereos with removable faceplates are pointless if you leave the faceplates on.
- Always lock your door. A lot of people forget.

And so on and so forth. Sorry to hear you guys had to get hit like that.

this is crazy. My sisiter needed a fuel pump put on her car. So this man came and towed the car to his house so he could fix it. she has been really sick since a surgary gone bad over a year ago. She was admitted back in the hospital the nexy day only for a police officer to call her and say that someone broke into her car and stole all her music out. She has two alarms on her car, one on the car and one on the trunk. The police report that he filed says that the car was unlocked and the alarm sensor was turned down. Then the store that the fuel pump was bought from said that it was returned for a full refund. He rigged her fuel pump to the relay switch and now her car still is not running. I guess he can't see that we can put shit togethere and that he let someone in the car so they can give him whatever drugs he needed. Dumb mother fucker. Hopefully now the police can charge him, but my sister is really upset and already sick. What kind of people do this shady shit and sleep at night??????

I did want to say that I feel everyone who has had there car tore up by some "can't get a job, so let me steal and make a profit asshole". It's all good though. See, we all can and will replace our music eventually, because good things come to those who work hard and do right. And I don't wish bad on anyone but I eally hope that all you people that think that doing these things is alright, I hope nothing bad happens to you. I had a friend who was humped over someones trunk and thats how the coroner moved his body too. The man that killed him never was charged because he was protecting his car which was parked on his property. Had he listend to us when we told him to stop doing that dumb shit and that people work hard for evertything they have, he would still be here, watching his kids grow up.

i live in austin. just had my stereo jacked. must have been some newbie cause they needed to rip off half the dash to get it. i'm not too pissed about the missing stereo. i'm just really disappointed with the lack of respect for another man's property.

Some of us do not steal stereo equipment for the purpose of an addiction or the fact we are lazy and do not want to make an honest living. Some of us are stuck in a position where we must do what is necesary to survive. It is not easy to bring yourself to doing this type of thing to another person and risk vs reward it is never worth it. If you have a small child you can find yourself in a place between a rock and hard spot because you need to keep bills paid and food on the table of the child suffers if you choose to commit a crime to survive and get caught your child suffers. It can become difficult at times. This may not justify anything but it is one reason people do these things. On the other hand there are many who do this to support a drug habit or to make fast cash or even aquire a stereo they could not afford and these people are truely assholes...

Thief, I'm aware that not all those who steal do it for kicks or to buy the latest bling. Some do it because if they don't, they'll go a fifth night without something to eat.

That, however, does not justify theft. Appealing to individuals for help remains a legitimate course of action, despite the shame and danger of doing so.

i had my stereo stolen a few too many times. recently had my head unit stolen. this last time though i had the last laugh because i epoxied razor blades on the sides of my deck. there was a ton of blood from it in my car and a thick trail down my driveway. a ton of blood! i will do the same thing for my next deck too. ha ha! you should do the same. f those punks.

I feel everyones pain...someone broke into my car and stole my Alpine deck...they were out hitting the my whole subdivision...when the cop was writing up my report he got a call for the same thing a few houses down...they even took my harness...looked in my trunk too but I had taken my subs out about 4 months ago...didn't break my window or anything...either they jimmied the lock on my passenger side or they had one of those devices that can make a key from the vin#...what a lack of respect...I wish I had caught them in the act...it would be the last time they'd steal anything...I would have taped their fingers to the stering wheel and started cutting them off one by one like denzel did to that guy in man on fire...
